Peanut Tofu Strips

Let me tell you, when people tell me they don't like tofu, I often think it's because they didn't cook it properly beforehand. There are so many alternatives and ways to prepare, fry, and season tofu that it's just too hard to say no to tofu. We've tried many different tofu recipes over the years and it's always so hard to pick a favorite, but these strips come very close to my personal favorite. These tofu strips are baked until crispy and then tossed in a creamy, salty, slightly spicy peanut sauce that you'll get addicted to. Plus, they pair perfectly with a vegan stir-fry or just about any dish that you think just needs a little upgrade! That being said, I wouldn't say this tofu recipe will remain my favorite because there are way too many to try...haha. However, if you don't try this recipe, you're definitely missing out!!!!

Peanut Tofu Stripes Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter - Peanut butter goes perfectly with tofu and that's why we decided to use peanut butter instead of other nut butters, but if that doesn't work for you, maybe try almond butter!

  • Soy Sauce - Soy sauce provides a salty and savory taste that works great in this recipe!

  • Lime Juice - The distinct zesty sour flavor and acidic taste make all the other ingredients pop and give this whole recipe just a slight hint of sweetness.

  • Garlic, Ginger, Chili Flakes - These flavors add the ultimate spice to the tofu!

Peanut Tofu Strips Tips

  • Crispness - The trick to ending up with crispy but creamy tofu strips is that you first have to bake or fry them until the tofu is really crispy and only then mix the tofu with the sauce.

  • Saltiness - We don't recommend using extra salt, since soy sauce is very, very salty on its own.

  • Frying Pan - You won't need more than one skillet for this recipe.

  • Garnish - Sprinkle the tofu with some black sesame seeds and/or white, cilantro, thinly sliced ginger, or even some pickled red onions.

Ingredients

Easy - 4 servings - 20 minutes
  • 400 g Tofu

  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil

  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce

  • 3 tbsp Peanut Butter

  • 3 tbsp Water

  • ½ Lime, juiced

  • 2 Garlic cloves

  • 1 cube Ginger, minced

  • ¼ tsp Chili Flakes, grind

Instructions

  1. Cut the tofu into strips. Over medium-high heat add the strips, soy sauce, and olive oil to a pan. Fry the tofu until golden and crispy.

  2. Meanwhile in a medium bowl, mix together all sauce ingredients besides the garlic.

  3. Transfer the crispy tofu to a plate and sauté the garlic in olive oil in the same pan you just used for the tofu until fragrant.

  4. Pour the sauce into the pan with garlic and cook until it thickens.

  5. Add the tofu strips, mix all tighter and fry for another minute.

  6. Serve the tofu with a nice bowl of rice, stir fry, or whatever you prefer! Enjoy it!
